Trick Eye, Zometool, Shadowing: Geometry Lab \u2013 the 3D festival in the Ludwig Forum invites you all to dive into the fascinating world of geometry. With science to grab hold of and 3D printers to go. Three whole days – don’t miss out!<\/h4>\n

<\/p>\n

 
\nThe golden ratio and one-point perspective, star charts and GPS. The real world and depictions of it are based on the laws of geometry. Geometry is a common foundation and common language for vast areas of science and art. Reason enough for Leibniz Prize winner Professor Leif Kobbelt and the Ludwig Forum to get together and stage a Future Lab project event: the 3D festival “Geometry Lab”.<\/p>\n

An important part of the festival are workshops. The absolute highlight will be a workshop with Leif Kobbelt and his team. Together with the workshop participants, they will build working 3D printers. Register now! <\/p>\n

 
\nTHE WORKSHOPS
\n3 – 5 November, 2017 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Paper Folding <\/strong>
\nIn this workshop, which will take place three times in all under the supervision of the artist Rinus Roelofs, participants will learn to fold carton and into fascinating geometric forms and aesthetic constructions. Similar workshops have already caused a sensation from Japan to the USA, for example in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Folding templates and materials will be provided. <\/p>\n

Zometool <\/strong>
\nZometool is a geometric toy with which you can put together complex lattice structures and polyhedrons. In this workshop, participants will work together to construct a huge model with way over 1000 parts. Construction materials will be provided. <\/p>\n

\n3D Printer To Go <\/strong>
\nIn just three hours! Under the supervision of 3D printing experts, participants will build their own 3D printers. At the end of the workshop, each participant will be able to take their printer home with them. <\/p>\n

WHAT ELSE HAPPENS IN THE GEOMETRY LAB? <\/strong><\/p>\n

EXHIBITION: SCIENCE MEETS ART
\n3 – 5 November, 2017
\ndaily 10 am \u2013 5 pm<\/strong>
\nIn a compact exhibition, works of art will meet scientific exhibits. The event will make use of everything from building blocks and mirrors to computers and VR headsets. The idea is for visitors to get an impression \u2013 through hands-on experimentation with objects \u2013 of the complete spectrum from classical geometric constructions to current geometry research. The show will also feature an exhibit that is created before the very eyes of the visitors. The famous 1.66-meter-high “Supermarket Lady” by Duane Hanson will be printed out live \u2013 in 3D and in original size!

SCIENCE TALK
