Aachen, 13th July 2018 \u2013 “We have been striving to make electromobility a success story born in North Rhine-Westphalia. And today marks a milestone in that emerging story. From the RWTH, from excellence, now come jobs in industry,” said NRW Minster President Armin Laschet at the opening ceremony of the e.GO works on the former Philips grounds in Aachen-Rothe Erde.
\nIn Works 1, the e.GO Mobile AG will immediately start with production of the electro city car e.GO Life. This is an Industry 4.0 factory in which every stage from development through materials sourcing to final assembly is digitally timed \u2013 both in process definition and in material flow. The works \u2013 erected on a 16,000 square metre area \u2013 includes assembly and logistics halls and office space. After the series launch, 142 employees will be busy there in single-shift operation producing 10,000 vehicles a year. A second shift is planned for introduction in mid-2019, increasing the production capacity to 20,000 vehicles a year.
\nThe State of North Rhine-Westphalia supported the establishment of Works 1 with funding to the tune of around 2.6 million euros from its Regional Economic Promotion Programme for NRW (RWP). The total investment volume is around 25.7 million euros. The STAWAG is also on board. It supplies the operations with solar power generated on the roof of Works 1.
\nThe first e.GO Life is scheduled to be completed at the end of the year. The proud owner can then pick it up from the in-house showroom.<\/p>\n

\nThe e.GO Mobile AG was founded in 2015 by Prof. Dr. G\u00fcnther Schuh as a producer of electrical vehicles. On the RWTH Aachen Campus, the staff \u2013 currently numbering 250 employees \u2013 have not only benefitted from the pioneer project StreetScooter. They also have access to the Campus network with about 360 technology companies and research institutions. Teams are at work developing various cost-effective and customer-oriented electrical vehicles for short-haul transport.
