Anyone with a degree in Engineering from the RWTH Aachen University in their pocket doesn’t need to worry about their future, according to a report in the German publication “Wirtschaftswoche”.
For German companies, RWTH graduates are the number one choice. That’s the result of the latest university ranking performed by the magazine “Wirtschaftswoche”. Every year, 500 HR managers are questioned about which universities – in their estimation – provide the best education. When it comes to Engineering Sciences, there is wide-scale agreement: job applicants from Aachen’s “University of Excellence” rate as particularly well-qualified.
The RWTH not only landed first place in the field of Engineering; it was also at the top in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Sciences. Computer Sciences, which had ranked second or third in previous years, are back at No. 1 in this year’s list. In the two other fields of expertise assessed – Electrical Engineering and Natural Sciences – the RWTH occupied a respectable third place in the ranking.
Unemployment rate virtually zero
The ranking makers see the main reasons for the high placement of Aachen’s university in its interdisciplinarity and its focus on digitalisation and next-generation technology. The strong focus on research combined with real-world applicability greatly benefits the students, equipping them optimally for their careers. “The unemployment rate among our students drops virtually to zero within just a few weeks after their graduation,” the Wirtschaftswoche quotes RWTH Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg as saying. They benefit from the industrial cooperations his university cultivates, learn to use state-of-the-art technology, and acquire practical experience from an early stage in their studies.
