The Shanghai Ranking 2016 places Engineering Sciences at the RWTH Aachen University among the world leaders.

The RWTH Aachen University ranks among the world leaders in Engineering Sciences. This is confirmed in a release of the “Academic Ranking of World Universities” issued on 15th August 2016. The Shanghai Ranking is one of the most renowned university ranking systems in the world and has been publishing its rankings since 2003. These rate universities on the basis of their publication performance and the number of prestigious scientific prizes they have been awarded.
In 2016, rankings were published for the very first time specifically for seven engineering subjects, with the best universities in each discipline being rated on the basis of eight ranking indicators. In six of these subject rankings, the RWTH succeeded in being placed among the top universities. In Chemical Engineering and Environmental Science & Engineering, it actually ranked first among the German Universities. In Energy Science & Engineering, it achieved a prestigious second place. And in the subjects Mechanical Engineering, Material Science & Engineering and Electrical & Electronic Engineering, the RWTH ranked among the German Top 7.
