All weather

All just pretty padding? This Bachelor’s thesis by Laura Wagner shows how valuable and meaningful good design can be.

What on earth could an FH Aachen design student do with highly complex weather data from the Solar Institute in Jülich? Well, she might prepare and process the data into a form that even lay persons can intuitively read and easily understand. And that’s exactly what Laura Wagner has done. In her Bachelor’s thesis, she set herself the task of investigating how conventional interface design principles might be transferred to multi-touch applications with object detection. The result is a feast for the eyes. Days, months and years leave traceable imprints as recorded and visualised data on sunlight, humidity, temperature, etc. Laura’s interface makes it as easy as pie to find out, for example, how cold it was on 2nd January 2018 …
