150 Years RWTH Aachen University

In 2020, the RWTH Aachen University will celebrate its 150th anniversary. A good reason for the Centre Charlemagne to look closely at the history of this University of Excellence.

The Royal Polytechnical High School of North Rhine-Westphalia started on 10 October 1870 with 32 teachers and 223 students. Today, the RWTH Aachen University is one of the leading European scientific and research institutions, its nine faculties with a total of 260 institutes offering almost all of the disciplines of a classic university. With more than 45,000 students, it is the largest university for technical studies in Germany. Since 2007, it has been one of the eleven German universities which are part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative. Its status as University of Excellence was reconfirmed on 19 July 2019.

The exhibition recounts the 150-year-long history of the RWTH University, presenting exhibits that reflect the developments in research.
